Find My Showdown, Hyperspace, Four Thousand Weeks

Welcome to Top 5 Tech, my weekly show about what to watch, listen to, read, download,

and something deep every week.

On what to watch, Lexi Savides has a really fun video about testing Find My on the iPhone

with Google's Find features, hid some items around and wanted to see just head to head

which one actually does better at finding the items, which is faster.

It's a really great video.

If you've ever been curious, you know, I'm all in the Find My universe.

But if you want to see how Google does it and how it compares, great video to check

it out.

That link's below.

There's been a lot of talk in the news about Apple's

price increases. We've talked about it on Primary Technology,

my show with Jason Ayten every Thursday. But there's a great

discussion on Accidental Tech Podcast really diving into that

pricing hike. And so I would recommend that episode, you can

jump to the chapter directly about pricing. And they also

talk about why doesn't Apple just make its own RAM. And they

have some several explanations about that. Basically, it's very

hard and would take a long time to spin up. But if you want to

learn more about Apple's pricing, the why, the how and

what they can do about it, that segment on the ATP episode is

really good.

On what to read, I actually did a

video last week on Shortcuts, and one of them was using the Charty third-party app to put

your life progress on a wallpaper on your lock screen.

You may or may not want to see that every day.

But I based the idea on this book, The 4,000 Weeks.

I really enjoyed this book, read it a couple years ago, and you know, you do have to deal

with our own mortality when you read this book, but I really think it's useful and it

is deep.

And if you're on Kindle Unlimited, which Jason apparently signed up for, you can get it for

free.

like an eleven dollar paper

Mac. I highly recommend. Not really tech related, but when it just comes to being present and

really using your time wisely, I really, really enjoyed this book. Four Thousand Weeks by

Oliver Berkman. Link to Amazon down below. On what to download, also ATP related, John

Siracusa, this is his app for the Mac, Hyperspace, and it is an app to reclaim disk space without

actually having to download a bunch of files or, you know, manage it all yourself. Now,

I've not tried it just yet, but I've heard really good things.

do this on my MacBook Air. I'm running the macOS 27 beta on it as well, and it's kind of my

experiment machine, so I'm going to try it. I will follow up and let you know how it goes,

but if you need to free up space on a Mac and you're not sure what to delete, I would try this

first. It's free to download, and you can scan and see how much space it will actually free up.

Then it is a purchase you can unlock for one month for $10. There is a lifetime unlock if this is

something you want to do for a long time, but if you need to free up space on your Mac, check out

hyperspace. It's in the Mac App Store and

for something deep, it's a holiday week here in the United States. Independence Day is coming up

on Saturday and I'm going to be actually going to the beach in a couple hours. So I'm leaving

recording this early. We're going to spend a couple of nights out there and just want to

encourage you to take some time, enjoy, you know, some time, either quiet time for yourself with

friends and family, whether you're here in the US doing Independence Day or just anywhere here

over the summer. And I just wanted to give you one of my favorite musical pieces. And it kind

It kind of reminds me of like coming home and nostalgia, but this is

The Planet Suite. If you've never heard it's an incredible work just front to back.

Listen to the whole thing. But my favorite and many people's favorite

movement is the Jupiter movement. There's a section in the middle that's very

melodic that has it's actually been remade as like a choral piece that I

think it's called like "Coming Home" or something like that. It's just a

beautiful work and you know if you're at the beach or if you're just sitting

outside sweating in the summer listen to Jupiter. I think you'll enjoy it. I'll put

link to the Apple Music track.

as well.

And that's top 5 this week.
