Welcome to Top 5 Tech,

my weekly show about what to watch,

listen to, download, read, and something deep every week.

On what to watch, I wanted to highlight

another tech YouTuber, which is MacVince.

He posted an Instagram story of his timeline

and final cut for how he edits these videos,

and it looked wild.

His videos are incredibly well-produced,

and he has awesome information.

He's talking about a bunch of new Mac apps in this video,

which I'll link below,

but he just has a great channel overall.

Lots of helpful information.

He's always highlighting really interesting apps.

definitely subscribe to MacVince and his Instagram.

And a bonus pick on what to watch, this is not tech-related, but Alton Brown was on the Last Meal YouTube show.

And honestly, I love all the episodes that you watch of The Last Meal, but the Alton Brown one was especially deep.

They do get into things like grief and loss, but if you're a fan of Alton Brown, maybe you watched him years ago, it was a great interview.

On what to listen to, John Gruber was actually a special guest on TBPN.

So this is a tech podcast. It basically is a live stream, several hours. He's one guest of several in this episode.

I'll put a link both to listen to it and to watch it on YouTube.

Keep in mind TBPN is

The podcast owned by open AI they acquire the rights to this show

I'm not sure how much influence they have right now as that deal just happened

But they actually had some really interesting questions for Gruber

So I'll link that down below on what to read

This is a little different but Mike Hurley and Jason Snell actually have a Kickstarter for a new podcast that they're wanting to produce

They already blew past their goal

But if you want to get in on the ground floor get some of the merch benefits or become a founding producer

They are now going to produce designed in California. It's going to be an Apple history podcast

It's going to be a weekly show.

Their goal was $40,000, they've blown past that.

Now they're almost at $100,000.

I backed it, I'm excited to hear this.

You can read all about the show,

see some of the artwork, which looks great,

all here on their Kickstarter page,

so that'll be linked below.

On what to download, I've heard David Sparks,

my co-host on MacPowerUsers, mention this,

and I've just been seeing it bubbling up

everywhere in social media.

TechSniper is an awesome app for the Mac.

It is a one-time purchase, not a subscription,

but it is $10, and if you find yourself

often trying to grab text from anything on your Mac,

an image, a video, or sometimes even a PDF,

it can be difficult to get it to select

just right in the preview app.

TechSniper takes care of all of that.

If you're watching on Apple and Spotify,

I'll show you here in the menu bar,

TechSniper lives just right there,

but you can also map it to a hotkey.

I have it as Shift + Command + 2,

and then it looks like you're capturing a screenshot,

so your cursor turns into the little crosshairs.

You can select anything that you see on screen,

and it immediately puts that text on your clipboard.

It's super fast, I found it to be super accurate.

You can also have TechSniper speak the tech.

Or quickly scan QR and barcode that you see on your Mac.

This is going to be a really helpful utility.

Ten bucks in the Mac App Store, link below.

And finally, on something deep, not tech-related, but I've been listening to Amy Poehler's podcast Good Hang.

She is an incredible interviewer.

Amy Poehler from SNL, lots of movies.

She was the voice of joy in Inside Out.

She interviews a lot of celebrities.

I loved her interview with Viola Davis.

She's an EGOT and she talked about her upbringing going to Juilliard.

But I'm going to link this interview, which is with Judge Judy.

I watched a lot of Judge Judy.

I remember watching it with my mom after school sometimes.

I think she's pretty pervasive in culture, so you've probably heard of her.

But this was an awesome interview.

There's some deep things in there.

She talks about intellectual curiosity and how she does not find herself to be intellectually curious.

And typically we think of that as a positive aspect, that everyone should be intellectually curious.

But I kind of liked how she talked about it and the way she framed it.

So that was interesting.

And how she talked about negotiation.

Whenever Judge Judy the show was up for renewal, she always--

with whatever the executive producer was at the network and she talks about a specific dinner where she just refused to negotiate and it works in her favor.

She's hilarious, a wonderful personality, highly recommend listening to the Judge Judy episode and any celebrity you might recognize from the episode names of Amy Poehler's podcast, they're really great.

The Kerry Washington episode is hilarious, Steve Carell was great, Jennifer Lawrence and Nick Offerman, both of those were hilarious, highly recommend the show.

So that's it for top 5 tech this week, but I'm headed to WWDC, you'll still get an episode

next Friday, and this is also a newsletter. You can subscribe and just get these links in your

inbox. All those links are down in the show notes. And be on the lookout on my YouTube channel. You

can just search for Beard FM there, and I'm going to be covering WWDC in person, all the keynote

stuff, updates to iOS, iPad, Mac, any shortcuts updates, and a ton more. If you haven't yet,

I'd appreciate a 5-star rating and review on Apple Podcasts for this show. And thanks as always for

listening, reading, and watching, and I'll catch you next time.
