Apple Vision Pro Future, Task App, Viticci's 10 Years at WWDC
Welcome to Top 5 Tech, my show about what to watch, read, listen to, download, and a little something deep every week.
On what to watch this week, there's a ton of great WWDC content out there.
I'll link a couple of my YouTube friends, like Andrew Clare, who helped me shoot.
But I also want to call out this interview Justin Ryan got with the Vision Pro team.
And he asked the question everyone's thinking, is Apple kind of done with Apple Vision Pro?
I won't spoil it. I think it's a great interview.
And shout out to Justin, who this is the second time I've got to see him at WWDC.
but we're really happy for him that he got to land this interview.
And Apple answers that question.
On what to listen to, I'm going to be a little self-serving here.
You should definitely listen to the latest episode of Primary Technology.
Got to record at Apple Podcast Studios in Apple Park.
It was a great episode.
Did a lot of live Siri demos showing off the Siri app, what it's capable of.
And Siri AI is actually really good.
So you can listen to that.
But also, once the talk show drops, the live talk show with John Gruber, Joanna Stern, and Nilay Patel,
I got to be there live in person.
It was a great show.
really thoughtful review of everything that's been happening at WWE.
So when that comes out, definitely take a listen.
On what to read, Federico Vitticci wrote a wonderful essay about his 10 years at WWDC.
It's a reflective essay talking about things he's learned, looking to the future.
He is a great storyteller, and it's a really nice read.
So I highly recommend reading WWDC 2026 Between Seasons by Vitticci.
And I'll also link Basic Apple Guy's macOS wall of text, where he took all the things
from that massive slide showing the improvements across Apple's platforms this year,
put it into a numbered list, and there are 263 things you can read about
that will be improved in iOS 27.
So links to both of those down below.
Next, I want to download.
I met so many great developers this week.
I'm going to be trying some new apps you might see in videos in the future.
But I wanted to shout out Tasks.
This is to-do lists and Kanban, or Kanban.
I learned that's how you actually pronounce it.
Got to take a selfie with Mustafa, who makes the Tasks app.
It's beautifully designed.
I'm going to be giving it a shot, seeing if I like how it works.
So you can check that out in the links below.
On something deep, I just want to say how thankful I am to be here.
This is my second year at WWDC.
I've been following coverage of DubDub and basically the entire tech industry probably
since 2007-ish.
I remember I followed Neelai and Joanna and all of them at Engadget back then, followed
them through This Is My Next, started reading MacRumors, 9to5Mac.
I remember so many years of seeing this event from a distance and it is still surreal to
me that I get to be here for the second year in a row.
And so many wonderful people that I've met, who I followed their work, Chance Miller from
9to5Mac, get to see my HomeKit Insider co-host Andrew O'Hara when I'm here, plus just eating
at the media breakfast and seeing iJustine across the room.
It is truly wonderful to be here.
And I want to thank you for making it possible.
It is because you guys respond to my videos, you find value in them, and you keep coming
back to watch.
It really makes a difference.
Thanks for all of you who support, supporting the shortcuts community, the podcasts, all
of that.
It means so much and I'm so glad and so fortunate that I get to do this.
It really, it really is meaningful.
I'm going to write something probably a little longer on my website as I'm headed home, just
to kind of recap everything I experienced and just how I felt about this WWDC.
So you'll be able to read that recap at beard.fm if you're interested.
It'll be written after the newsletter for Top 5 goes out, so maybe I'll include it next
week.
But remember, you can get this as a newsletter delivered every Friday.
You can subscribe by scanning this QR code right here.
Podcasts, I'd really appreciate a five-star rating and review for this show.
And remember, you can watch or listen here or listen wherever you get your podcasts.
And I appreciate you watching and listening every week.
